Environmentally Friendly Concrete In Details

By Enid Hinton

The use of concrete in construction projects is not a new phenomenon. However, with the continual call to adopt to measures and products dubbed green, and those that help in conservation measures, there has been a recent uptake of environmentally friendly concrete. This type of concrete has more benefits than normal concrete and is aligned with the aims to preserve the environment.

Concrete is a mixture of aggregate, sand and water mixed in various proportions to attain a consistent mixture that can be molded into any form or shape desired. However concrete is moving from this traditional form to more environmentally friendly forms. This is achieved by using recycled materials as well as ensuring associated costs are kept at a minimum.

The eco friendliness of solid is usually measured using an index of the amount of carbon. This approach is two pronged and may involve measuring carbon levels within the solid or measuring the volume of carbon released during the manufacturing process. The addition of fly ash to the solid mixture has been proven to reduce the levels by 25%, and is hence mixed in to the Eco-friendly solid mixture.

Concrete manufacturers are adopting the green manufacturing and using more and more recycled materials in their manufacturing processes. In the case of environmentally friendly solid, water used in the process is usually recycled. Concrete left over from previous projects is also added in to avoid wastage.

Advantages of using environmentally friendly include the possibility of achieving any limits one sets. This is achieved since concrete takes any shape and form as needed. It can adopt any angles and curves. The strength associated with solid can be manipulated so as to design large open spaces which will still hold, giving full flexibility.

Construction that uses such solid has been seen to promote a safer and easier sense of living as well as a healthy one. The solid mixture is not easily flammable and protects against natural disasters. They can easily withstand most occurrences like hurricanes, tornadoes and floods. It also easy to clean and maintain as it can be cleaned using nontoxic organic cleaning agents.

When choosing materials for a construction project, durability is a key factor that many people will look for. Housing units built with concrete are for the long haul and are meant to last lengthy periods. Such buildings can withstand a majority of the natural disasters including floods, heat waves, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornado without much problem.

Using concrete helps in saving the other building materials, since most of them are based on natural resources like wood. Such have been dwindling as their price continues to rise. This coupled with the call by conservationists to find alternative sources of fuel and construction needs has put Eco-friendly concrete ahead of the pack in terms of helping in environmental conservation.

The continued uptake of environmentally friendly solid has increased the spur and velocity of campaigns and actions toward environmental conservation. It is in the best interest of everybody that we all cooperate and push for use of Eco-friendly materials to ensure the environment is safeguarded.
