The Different Catholic Views Explained

By Brenda Warner

Catholicism has been around for millennia. This is the biggest Christian denomination in the planet with more than a billion followers drawn from all walks of life. There are moral stipulations of the church that are considered a core part of this religion. Some Catholic views have a basis on scriptures while others are the opinions of senior clergy. After major church meetings, cardinals and bishops can agree on some issues. The church cannot take any position on any issue unless there is consensus in the top echelons of leadership regarding to the morality of the position in question.

The most basic belief lies with the supremacy of the Bible. It is agreed that this is a sacred book and other books are inferior to the Holy Bible. It is the moral compass that guides the believer to the path of light. The Bible is believed as the point of reference. In case of confusion, it is referred to for purposes of facilitating clarity. According to Catholicism, the Bible is inspired and it is error free.

The moral compass of the catholic believer is the Ten Commandments. Abiding to these laws leads to a fruitful life that is in compliance with what The Creator wants and is in accordance with the basic laws of governments. These commandments have addressed many issues of day to day living and morality. People are required to love their Creator with all their hearts and also love their neighbors as they love themselves. Someone who loves his neighbor will not think of doing something bad to him.

Catholics believe in the Holy Trinity. This is also believed by members of other faiths. The Creator exists in 3 forms. Each member of The Trinity plays a crucial role.

The sinfulness of humans is something found in the scriptures of this church. It has been indicated clearly that no one is without sin since everyone was born with original sin. Thus, there is need for salvation that comes through baptism. Being baptized involves the pouring of water to the head and the reciting of prayers. After this ritual, a person is required to live a holy life in preparation of the kingdom to come. It is only through repentance, baptism and holiness that a person can have the hope of eternal life in paradise.

Everyone has fallen short of grace because of sins. Being made right again in the eyes of The Creator is done by pure grace and not any personal acts. No one can save himself but salvation is through the kindness of The Supreme. The whole affair is an act of faith. The forgiven person has to embrace repentance and live a life that exhibits a turning away from sin.

Catholicism requires sexual purity. Church members are required to marry one wife. Marriage is the point where someone should start enjoying sex. The main purpose of this activity is procreation. Chastity is greatly valued. A chaste individual will benefit in present life and life to come.

Every church has a set of doctrines which believers have to abide with. Moral eternal punishment is the consequence of disobedience. One may also be excommunicated from the church because of a gross violation. Obedience leads to a fruitful life and an eternal life filled with bliss.
