Florida Free Public Divorce Records

By Ben Kingsley

The State of Florida is one tough cookie when it comes to filling for divorce; nonetheless, obtaining marriage records or any public records here is one of the fastest and hassle-free activities, thanks to their online services. Of course, calling the office or mailing and asking for a Florida Divorce Record is still allowed. However, if one wants expediency, then sending an application online is one of the fastest ways to do so.

Getting divorce records is the same as requesting for one's marriage record. One can get it by checking out Florida's Bureau of Vital Statistics website. The website contains information pertaining to divorce proceedings and granted starting from June 1927. If one is looking for records before the date indicated, the Bureau has no record but you can request for it from the Court Clerk of the county where the divorce was granted. One may also send in their request to the Office of the Vital Statistics if one is not aware of the actual time or date.

For each record requested, the cost is about $5. If one makes the request at the same time, they can get a discount of $1 so they only have to pay $4 for each succeeding records. The date should be specific or exact. If one is not sure of the exact year, they can add $2 for each year that they want the office to search. Once the fees are paid, the office will process the request. Processing would take about three to five business days. If one is in a hurry, they can pay $10 for "rush services" which would take about 3 days or "express delivery" which is 24 hours. For those who choose the 24-hour delivery, they are required to send a self-addressed stamped envelope together with their request. The Office sets no restrictions as to the number of records one can request.

The form is available in three different languages - English, Spanish and Creole. Simply download the Application for Divorce or Annulment Record form and fill in the details. Remember to include all the important information such as the name of the husband and wife and the city or county where the divorce was obtained.

People who request for the record should remember to indicate the complete name and information of the divorced parties especially the maiden name of the wife. Should one be unsure of the exact details, it is crucial that he or she remember the husband's name as the Bureau indexes the divorce records under the husband's name. To ensure fast and smooth transaction, complete details of the person requesting the information is necessary.

Many people have complained about how inflexible the Florida law system is, especially when it comes to divorce cases. However, once the annulment or divorce is finally granted, the Florida State is one of the fastest places to get one's divorce record. All the pertinent details of how to obtain one's divorce report is available in the Bureau's Marriage and Divorce Record website. If one is looking for faster and convenient services, online request is the most stressful way of doing it.
