Ways Of Helping Your Son Or Daughter To Improve Memory

By Stellah Armodia

Enhancing memory is a priceless skill to learn at any age, but it isn't really the same for a young child. They aren't improving memory skills, but developing them. The memory of children, much like their body, is still developing. If their memory correctly develops early on in life, they can benefit later on in their life.

Encouraging pre-school age children to learn memory skills can improve academic performance and decrease stress when the child starts school. Nevertheless, note that pre-school children mustn't be expected to really remember information. Don't push young children too hard, but make learning part of their day-to-day routine. You can help your kid by playing memory building games. After playing, ask your child what he or she thought about the games played. It is natural for kids this young to recall hardly anything, but enjoyable topics are much easier. Nevertheless, asking questions is certain to get your kid in the habit of remembering things, which can only help them build their memory skills.

The very early years of school is the time when memory "muscles" actually develop. With preparation, these years become a lot easier for a child. However, a young mind is confronted by a big challenge of learning how to learn and developing memory skills that will enable the child to pass tests. Your child should be frequently reassured that his or her memory skills will get better. Keep telling your child that struggling to memorize things is actually common. You wouldn't like your child to quit trying. If he or she does stop trying, your kid's memory will cease developing.

You can encourage your little one's memory development by providing him or her with lots of mental stimulation. It's very rare that kids have a strong interest in topics they are studying in school. If you're able to relate your kid's lesson to something he or she is interested in, your child will remember the information better. Furthermore, try and combine learning and memorizing into fun, after school activities -- things your child really wants to do. In the event your child is fascinated with sports, talk about and ask questions about the stats of favorite players.

As your child gets older, his or her hobbies will change. However, you could still use the memory development and improvement techniques mentioned. As your child enters his or her pre-teen and teen years, you will find that it's even more difficult to get your child to get interested in the activities or hobbies you recommend. This is because your child is developing his or her individuality. Children at this age are apt to have problems with school because of a rigid curriculum. To stimulate a desire for learning and remembering, it's vital that you encourage any (reasonable) educational pastime your child takes an interest in. You also need to try to display an interest in your kid's pursuits by engaging him or her in discussion. Ask your child questions that will encourage him or her to recall facts.

The memory improvement methods you would use to enhance your own memory will work too when your child is a little older. You can have your child read books on memory and memory strategies when he or she is old enough to comprehend such subject matter.
