By Stella Brown

Figuring out a name for your baby can be a complicated task for some folks. There is a wide variety of names to think about. Occasionally the expecting parents would like to see which gender the child will be before giving their name any thought. Some feel that picking out the perfect name takes considerable time and they don't want to waste it. As you read on, we will be sharing some suggestions that may help you make that decision.

A great way to choose a baby name is to use the name of someone who was inspiring in your life. This can be someone well known or someone special from your own life. Perhaps you were even inspired by someone imaginary, as a character from a book or movie. You need to be careful when choosing the name, however, as there could be consequences based upon the name you ultimately give your baby. For instance, if you are hero is Andrew Jackson, then calling the baby Andrew is perfectly okay. However, naming a child after a character you admire in The Lord of the Rings or Star Wars might be a different story.

Some parents may love the name, but the child may suffer from constant embarrassment. Some names have been established for girls and other names for boys; then there are those who could go to any sex. A few of these names may include Pat, Evan or Alex. There used to be names that were gender oriented, but now these names are up for grabs to either one. Even though this is accepted these days; you could be creating problems for your child. This may make people unsure as to who the name is referring to; a male or female. You don't want to put your kid in an uncomfortable position. Unless there is some sort of significance to the family name being passed down; you may decide to name them a name tilted a little more in tune with their gender. It is usually best to name your child a name that is fitting to either male or female.

Most names have a certain identity or meaning. Many cultures associate good and bad luck with the names their children end up with. Numerology is often associated with choosing good and bad names. This is not just hocus-pocus. Many studies have shown that people that have certain names are more apt to be successful than those without them. You can find several books on this topic, plus there are many websites online that convey the same information. You should probably look at this data before you name your baby. It may not motivate you in regard to your name choice, but it is certainly worth a look.

In other cases, a generation is skipped and the child is given the name of a grandfather or grandmother. When it comes to legal documents or mail delivery, this can become very problematic and cause confusion for obvious reasons. This problem can be amended by adding Jr or "II" to the name. Although some people, admittedly, will not want to have a suffix attached to their name for life. Your baby needs a name, and we have shown you several ways of selecting one. You probably thought it was an easy decision, but found otherwise. Your child and your parents need to be happy with the name, so think a lot about the name you are going to choose. You might have to choose the name, but it is your child who will have to live with it, not you or your parents, so think about that.
