James Hardie Siding Installation Tips

Installing a siding is just easy. It is easier than you think it is. There are a few differences that a traditional wood and a cement siding might have. Usually, there are installation instructions, but it will depend on the manufacturer. To make sure, just check a local building inspector for the code requirements.

Safety of everyone should always be the priority. When you are having a James Hardie siding installation St Louis, you have to wear a safety glasses, especially if you are nailing and cutting. Have your ears protected when you are using a circular saw in cutting it.

Cutting this piece will produce many dust particles. Dust that is produced from this product can lead cause this disease called silicosis. This disease is incurable, that is why you will be required to wear a dust mask, the N ninety five. It will prevent you from inhaling those harmful particles. You also have to work outside and vacuum all the dust that is produced.

The moment the product arrives, do not forget to check if there are damages. Store it properly in a flat ground and well supported area. The storage area should be kept dry to make the product also dry prior to its installation. Carry it carefully on the edge to prevent breaking it. While you are cutting it, you need to support its length.

You have to set up the place and one you will be working with beforehand. Ensure that the walls will be covered with a board or a foam. You may also use some felt paper or perhaps, a house wrap. In making lines, where one will be located, you can just simply use some chalks.

You can cut a fiber cement piece in various ways. You can cut it using a circular saw, but this method will create many dust particles. You can also use a fiber cement shears, it is a special electric shears that you can use to make a curved and straight cut. A jigsaw can also be used in cutting curves and holes. The method of scoring can also be applied to it, although it will create a not that smooth finish. You can use a tipped scoring knife because it can last longer than any standard knife blade.

When you fasten it, you may do it either with a pneumatic nailer or you can nail it manually by hand. You may also attach it using a corrosion resistant screws. Stainless steel nails are perfect for this or a hot dipped galvanized one. Nails should reach and penetrate at least one inch.

Before you install it, make sure to put a trim in all corners of your wall. A trimming can be a vinyl, wood or something that is thicker. Corners should be thicker at least one fourth.

If you are installing it alone, an overlap gauges may be utilized and support one while nailing it. Blind nailing is highly recommended since the head of the nails will be hidden as soon as the next row is attached. Always make sure to overhang the felt in the row before the other row is attached, it will keep the water from flowing at the back if the caulking will fail. Finish it by painting it so that it will look presentable and also to protect it.
