Marriage is the result of two people in untied in love and this is documented in the form of a marriage certificate. GA marriage records or marriage certificates issued in Georgia are open to the public which means that the local residents are allowed to access and request it whenever it is necessary. The implementation of the Freedom of Information Act has made this possible.

Marriage records in the state of Georgia are one of the most accessed public documents. The residents use it in a number of ways. It is one of the official documents that the government requires when doing transactions with any agencies. It serves as proof of one's identity and marital status which is helpful when the process involves the finances of an individual. It is also an important reference for those who are conducting genealogy research. The document contains important information that helps individuals trace and identify their origins. Records which have been registered from June 9, 1952 can be obtained from the Department of Public Health in Georgia. Records before the given date are only available at the county office where the marriage was registered originally. Certain fees have to be paid but it depends per county. In order to obtain a copy of a marriage license from the state, one has to pay $10 per request and an additional $5 if additional copies are needed. One has to provide the basic information of the document that is being requested. It is also necessary to indicate the personal information of the one who requested the record. One can only get the document if his/her name is on the file or they are an immediate relative of the bride or the groom.

The department of Public Health in Georgia is where the public documents of the state are being managed and this includes the marriage records. Getting a copy of the marriage certificate can be done by going to the office. Another way to get it is by sending a mail request addressed to the office. All of the requirements have to be enclosed on the mail request in order for it to be processed. The state office does not allow cash in the mail order but it can be paid through a check or mail order. The document can be obtained after several days since the mail request was sent. The document can be obtained faster if it was requested at the office. All of the waiting and the travel can be eliminated by doing the search online.
