Streak Free Laminate Floors Are Elegant And Affordable

By Paulette Mason

Homeowners choose laminate flooring for an elegant look for a lower price. Streak free laminate floors are a lot easier to install than natural flooring, and aesthetically look similar to the alternatives. Maintenance of these floors areas is also fairly easy, but it's important to keep the procedures in mind to keep your floors in top shape.

Although laminate floors are durable, aesthetically pleasing, and preferable to carpets; customers also often complain of visible damages on the surfaces. This is due to poor maintenance of the floors, so it's important to properly clean them. Correct maintenance will prevent streaks, scratches, and lines. It will also prevent moisture damages like bending, warping, and expanding planks.

Sand, dust, dirt, and grit particles often accumulate on your floors. If left unattended, they can grind on the surface. Therefore, keep your floors clean and smooth to avoid any damages. Another way to help keep most of the particles away is to place door mats at all your door entrances. However, keep in mind that these mats must be cleaned regularly as well.

It may be smart to put protective pads under all your heavy furniture. When you want to rearrange their positions, the weight can cause the legs of these objects to damage the surface of your floors. Make sure not to slide the objects, but rather to pick them up when rearranging.

Pets and liquids have ways of damaging your laminate flooring as well. The nails on your animals can create small and many scratches on the surface of the floors. Make sure to trim the nails often to avoid this damage. Also, liquid left unattended can cause long-term damage, so always mop and clean up any liquid left on your floors.

You can avoid streaks on your laminate floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and dry mopping. Using appropriate cleaners, sweep and vacuum the surface to remove larger particles before you dry mop. Don't use a wet mop to clean your floors, as liquid accumulation can damage the laminate. It should be noted that the more people you have walking around the house, the more regularly you should clean.

Before using a store-bought spray or liquid solution to clean your floors, you can wet-clean them with a solvent of 1 cup of distilled vinegar in clean water. You should dry the floor immediately after using a moist rag with this homemade solution in order to avoid future damage or streaks. Afterwards, use the store-bought solution on a dry mop to clean the entire flooring area.

Make sure to keep the manufacturer's guidelines about maintaining your laminate floors. This may include cleaning, repairs, and other miscellaneous maintenance procedures. If you want to avoid regularly cleaning your floors, you can also apply a tough upper coating on the laminate to provide extra protection from damaging particles. Even so, make sure to keep the basic cleaning tips in mind to keep the surfaces streak-free.
