Most plumbers maintain or install plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, bathtubs and showers for commercial, residential and industrial customers. They are the one who install and repair gas pipes and water tubes, waste disposal, drainage systems and appliances. Usually, successful plumbers have skills in problem solving, good manual dexterity, solid math skills and the tolerance for work. If you have these qualities, then becoming a plumber is certainly your field of profession.

Before you become professional in this field, you also need to consider the education and requirements needed. Although a formal education is not required, but most plumbers need to work as trainees and become licensed. First is to get a professional training.

Although, it is not necessary to take several trainings before you become a professional in the plumbing, but this is better to take an advantage from others. This is a better way to gain enough knowledge and skills in the industry. Some technical schools are offering different plumbing programs that might be the best for you. Usually, it will take one year before the completion. Through this program, students will learn different areas in plumbing. This is also a good start to earn a certain degree.

Next is the completion of the apprenticeship. This is normally provided by the local unions. This will usually last from four to five years either paid or unpaid. Students will learn local plumbing codes, procedures and installation process. They will also gain special plumbing skills, identifying grades and using some tools of their business.

To become eligible in this field, most potential plumbers should meet a certain qualification that are normally required in a specific state. Just for an example, you have to be 18 years of age. You must also finish your high school and obtained a diploma.

You must also obtain a license. To become licensed is not usually required by some states. However, most of the states require you to earn a license. Every state has no uniform licensing standard. It depends on what the state requires you to comply. You also need to obtain a five experienced job in this field before you become licensed.

Most of the exams require a certain applicant to know all the codes in the locality for the installation and maintenance. Most professionals who are working in the gas lines also requires to obtain an additional license. Before taking an exam, be sure to study. This exam evaluates every applicant and measure their knowledge in plumbing. For those who wished to become licensed, you should ask questions during the apprenticeship. This would be your advantage once you are taking the exams.

Any plumbers can also get an additional training and certification in the plumbing specialties. Today, there is an increased area of specialization. This includes the green techniques and strategies that are usually designed to save energy and water.

As you can notice, to obtain a license and to become a professional has never been easy. You have to undergo various exams and training periods before you accomplished something. You just have to give your best and to take it easy.
