Knowing More About Islamic Turban

By Cathy Mercer

The mode of dressing since time in memorial has always been influenced by a number of factors such as religion, traditions and different cultures around the world. In these scenarios, firmness has been employed in ensuring their respective followers adhere to it at all times. A good example is the use of Islamic turban for the Muslim brotherhood. This one has been there since the early days of Prophet Muhammad.

The above mentioned attire is elongated and slim when it comes to size. Men of this religion use it to cover their heads as denoted in their beliefs. The fabric comes from a variety of materials; some synthetic while others natural. They include cotton, wool, nylon and polyester. Regardless of this variation in make, it serves the same purpose; covering the heads of men believers.

Apart from materials of making them, variations arise in terms of appearance especially when it comes to color. The most preferred ones are white and black. Others in existence are blue and grey. It can be said that each of this colors has its own interpretation when put on. As of such, there are no restrictions whatsoever on this ground. As long as someone understands this, he is free to put on whatever color he prefers.

On the issue of size, there is a standard measure denoted in the chapters of the prophetic book. This is actually in terms of length; between seven to ten yards. In this view, any measure between these two is quite appropriate. Of late, this length has been a subject of debate, with the leaders failing to agree on the right size. That is why any long cloth that covers the head with at least one winding is suitable for use.

When covering, it takes a skill for perfection to be achieved. This has been a challenge for those beginners. As time goes by and with sufficient practice, it becomes simpler to do it. This process should ensure total covering of the crown. When tying, it should not be done so tight since it may result into headaches.

The uses of this cloth are numerous. When put on, it demonstrates a sense of manhood in the person is wearing it. This is per their belief from their holy book. Here, this person is viewed to be respectful to their belief and a true devoted Muslim who has a strong belief in their faith.

When praying, the use of this piece of cloth is a must. Some view bare heads while in prayers as a sign of laziness and abomination to the religious aspect. In this modern time, praying with a turban on the head is no longer an abomination as some view this as a way of total humility before Allah.

Islamic turban is also used as identification for fellow brothers and clear distinction from the non Muslim believers. This brings them together for fellowship, socializing and strengthening the ties within their belief. To them, it is an easier way to identify a fellow brother in this religion. As an identity, they believe it brings them good rewards.
