Advantages Of Using EWC Controls In Regulating The HVAC Systems

By Coleen Torres

Air quality has been found to be one of the most important aspects of comfort in any building or house. This is a fact that can be supported by research findings. Heating, ventilation, and cooling systems in houses are the ones responsible for maintaining this aspect of comfort in the house. They play this role through zoning, an area in which EWC controls are one of the most reliable components.

In zoning, the house or building is divided into numerous zones. In each of these zones, there are thermostats that control the temperatures of a specific area. The thermostats are controlled by a central operating system. After setting the desired temperatures for the different sectors, the zoning system will maintain them as they are.

The use of a single thermostat for the whole house can never be efficient. One will find that the conditions comfortable, for instance for the bedroom are not the same that are suitable for the kitchen. This results in a situation where one is uncomfortable in some areas of the house and comfortable in others. This means they will have to adjust temperatures whenever they move.

One might need to constantly adjust temperatures as they move across the different rooms in the house. A zoning system presents no such problems. Zoning systems are efficient. While using a single thermostat might be tedious, replacing it relieves one of stresses they might encounter while constantly changing the temperatures to suit them.

According to research, the percentage of household income used in energy is normally around about 40. The use of zoning systems can reduce this by about 30 per cent. However, temperature is not the only aspect of heating, ventilation, and cooling that can be controlled in a building or house. There is also the aspect of aeration and humidity, which is often, controlled using dampers. These come in various designs and types, and control elements of HVAC like temperature and humidity.

Dampers are an easy way of controlling the quality of circulating air. In large buildings, they are the preferred choice to air conditioning systems because they are cheaper. They regulate the aspects of air quality that thermostats and temperature zoning systems cannot adequately control by controlling the temperature. There are both manual and automatic ones, which are self-regulatory and require no input.

There are numerous advantages of zoning apart from the obvious convenience and energy expenditure reductions. They help the owner of a building or house achieve what scientists call the comfort zone. This is a set air quality percentage that they consider to be comfortable for majority of people in a house or building.

Poor quality of air circulation is bad for the health. Humidity and cramped conditions increase the likelihood of developing and transmitting air borne diseases. In addition, a house with young kids and elderly people require strict control of temperature. Humidity and high temperatures might also affect the working of some household appliances. In the long run, a good HVAC system reduces the energy bill while improving comfort.
