Important Facts About Mobile Home Skirting

By Marci Glover

Mobile houses normally rest on blocks which are then placed on a concrete foundation. In the process some space is created between the base of the house and the concrete foundation. Mobile home skirting, sometimes known as trailer skirting, is therefore normally done in order to cover this gap. The main objective therefore is the creation of a barrier between the two surfaces.

Skirting is important if you want to decorate your mobile home. The quality of the outlook is however highly dependent on your budget. Nevertheless, besides giving the house good looks, the process also serves to cover the structural elements of the home. In addition, it helps in regulating the temperatures during summer and winter.

The market has a wide variety of materials one can use for skirting purposes. However, the choice of which to use is entirely based on how deep you want to dig into your pocket. The materials used also determine the final appearance of the house. Some of them are easy to use while others require seeking the services of a professional.

The first step before embarking on any project of this kind is cost calculation. To do this, you need to calculate the length of the linear footage of the house. This is done by summing up both the width and length measurements of all four sides of the building. The total measurement you get is the key determinant of the cost.

There is need to determine the height from the ground level to the base of the structure. A tape measure can perfectly do the job. You can do this by measuring the height at every corner of the building. Then measure the middle height of the linear footage from one side of the building. The final height will therefore be the average of all the heights measured.

The type of material you will also play role in the total cost of the project. If operating on a low budget, then vinyl can be a good option. This is because it is cost friendly and does not require a professional to carry out the installation process. Reil rock panels can also be used in this case. These are made of tough plastic that gives them the look of stone and are tough. They are also relatively cheap and easy to install. If your main goal is to regulate the temperature below the house then faux rock can be the best option. This is due to the fact that it is made out of polyurethane, a material that can withstand extreme temperatures. There however other materials available in the market such as plywood, bricks and metal.

After completing the above steps, make sure you get the materials needed from a nearby store and transport them to your mobile home. Using a see-saw, trim the panels according to the required size. Then align the base of the house and the ground with wooden frames. Thereafter, use a screw drill to drive in screws which will attach the panels to the frames.

Skirting is advisable for owners of manufactured homes. Whether you want to prevent the entrance of small animals to your house, or regulate house temperatures during summer and winter, the technique is the best. You should however involve an expert when doing this.
