Joshua The Odyssey Weaves Intrigue

By Lela Perkins

Occasionally a book is introduced to the literary world that captures the full attention of the readers and opens their minds to new ideas and possibilities. One such tome is Joshua The Odyssey Of A Man. It is a beautifully written work of historical fiction that covers the possible life adventures of one of the world's most famous people.

Written by Dr. Theckedath Mathew, MD, this is becoming the most discussed work of the modern era. While based on a real person, the tale is written in such a way that it feels like reading an actual biography. The primary character is modeled after Jesus of Nazareth and offers a possible account of what events may have occurred during the years in which there is no mention of the prophet in the Bible.

Joshua, a Jewish boy, is the star of this story and his tale begins at age thirteen, and picks up where Jesus' trails off. They are both incredibly wise young men who are not like the other children and stand out in a crowd. The next eighteen years of his life are chronicled in this fictional work, giving amazing details for realistic adventures and experiences.

In the Bible, there is no mention of Jesus from age thirteen to thirty-one and through the centuries, there has been much speculation as to what actually occurred during those missing eighteen years. So many questions revolve around what he did and where he traveled. There is no definitive proof but based on extensive research into various writings of that era, the author was able to come up with a plausible account.

The author took the time to thoroughly study the lay of the land and they way people lived during that era in order to give the readers the most accurate depiction of a man's life during that period. He builds each character with great care to make them as realistic and personable as possible so that they virtually come alive in one's mind. Combining these skills made it possible to generate a very plausible fictional work.

From the very beginning the reader becomes invested in the story and stays intrigued right through to the last sentence. Joshua is portrayed as a man wise beyond his years who is among the first promoters of fair and equal treatment for women. In similar fashion as the biblical account, he saves a woman from a group of men wanting to stone her to death for sinning.

The lands of Egypt, Taxila, Mathura, Athens, Rome and Babylon are all along his route of travel. He spends time teaching, healing and promoting compassion and understanding for the struggles of oppression and the plight of the working class as he makes his way back to Israel. The author took great care to make all accounts historically plausible.

The tale of Joshua The Odyssey Of A Man is one book that is worth the time it takes to read it. It gives the reader something to think about and opens them up to a world of possibilities and adventures. Whether one is Christian or not, this is one tale of humanity and struggle that will keep one wanting to know what happens next until the very last moment.
