When a couple decides to have their marriage in Missouri, a marriage certificate is generated by the state to make the event legal and official. The marriage certificate is an open document which means that any residents of the state are given the freedom to access it. Because of this, the document has become a popular file in the state of Missouri.

There are several reasons for requesting a copy of a marriage certificate in the state of Missouri. Genealogy research is only one of the top reasons for accessing such documents. To get the correct document, one has to completely fill out the application form with the necessary information needed such as the name of the couple and the date and place of their marriage. This can help hasten the retrieval process, In addition to that, the one who filed the request has to indicated his/her contact details on the application form. The document is only released if the one who filed it is either the bride or the groom or any of their immediate family.

In Missouri, the marriage certificate can be requested at the office of the Department of Health. The said office is responsible for managing the public documents of the state. The office accepts requests that are made personally and are sent via mail. If one prefers to do the mail request, one has to make sure that the required documents are enclosed on the mail order. Processing can take a while; however, the long wait can be avoided if the search is made online.
